DSK WOMENS CRICKET TRAINING: WEEK 1 30/10/23

Whilst cricket in Drumaness has been around in for ages, the idea for a women's team only sparked during the summer whilst the youth academy was running. The women's team would run beside the already formed men's teams [congratulations to the men's first team who beat Holywood get get promoted to the NCU section 1 for the first time in the clubs history 🎉🎆😀]

Despite the title this wasn't the first week of training but have the memory of a goldfish so well start with this week [I also didn't have my blog last time but whatever]  Today we focused on bowling. I like bowling its fun to get wickets and destroy others chances of runs mwahahahah, bowling probably would be my favourite position to be, don't get me wrong I absolutely love batting and fielding I hate wicket-keeping lol   but I just prefer bowling  lol. We started off by doing some running warmups across the hall, then we moved into the super duper fun warm up game which is kind of like Gaelic and Camogie mix with football its quite hard actually but you get used to it. Then we were told the correct way to hold the ball when bowling to get a good delivery I already knew where lol, I seriously watch too much cricket  then we paired up into groups of two to bowl the ball back and forth to each other. We finished of the session with a simple fielding drill which was quite entertaining because I cannot throw over arm for the life of me when I am asked to lolz.

Now that you have heard it from me time to find out what someone else thinks.

I decided to ask fellow teammate Andrea some questions, these were her answers:

Question 1: Do you like Cricket

"Yes. Its a very interesting and skilful sport."

Question 2: How does it feel to be apart of the first ever DSK women's team?

"Very honoured to be part of the Women's project and the youth academy. Its keeping the game alive within the village and with having family links to the club makes it all more special."

Question 3: How far do you think cricket in Drumaness can go in the future?

"The club as a whole is already achieving a lot, with the promotion to section 1 for the senior men to the very successful youth academy and ladies. So I feel the club is on the right track to doing bigger and better things in the near future"

Question 4: Would you recommend to a friend who has never played before?

"Yes absolutely. I'm a big believer in "giving it a go" So I would encourage anyone to try it out, you never know what hidden potential you could unlock."

Question 5: What do you think of the coaches we have had so far?

"Very good and very knowledgeable"

Well you have heard it, not just from me but from Andrea as well. The women's training is very good, If you haven't you definitely need to get involved.

That's all folk's until next Monday 💛💙
